Amber Imai-Hong is an Avionics Engineer and Project Manager. Born and raised on Hawaiʻi Island, Amber developed skills in robotics, astronomy, and tinkering while attending Waiākea High School which lead her to join a small satellite team in her freshman year at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where she majored in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Electrophysics. She graduated with her Bachelors of Science in 2012. Amber worked at the Hawaiʻi Space Flight Laboratory doing spacecraft design, development, testing, operations, and STEM Outreach until 2024 when she was able to move home to Hawaiʻi Island and start at the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES) based out of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. PISCES focuses on In-Situ Resource Utilization and developing technology that can be used in space and in Hawaiʻi, as well as outreach. Through this experience, Amber has worked on geopolymer research, telepresence competitions, and STEM Outreach in the community that raised her. Over the past 18 years, Amber has worked on 20 spacecraft, suborbital, and remote sensing projects.
