Matt Clements is a highly regarded executive in the mining and asset management industry, with more than 28 years of experience spanning some of the sector’s most influential organisations.
With a foundation in Mechanical Engineering and career built on operational excellence, Matt is known for his deep technical knowledge, strategic foresight, and steady, values-led leadership.
His journey began at Rio Tinto, where he spent 15 years in progressively senior roles within Mobile Equipment, culminating as Manager, HME Planning. He then joined BHP, serving in a range of leadership positions including Maintenance Manager, Acting Mine Manager, and Acting General Manager.
Matt’s operational expertise and trusted leadership led him to Fortescue, where he was appointed Registered Mine Manager and Mobile Maintenance Manager at the Cloudbreak operation and then moved to the Perth office as Manager Asset Management.
Matt went on to establish and lead his own asset management consultancy, advising clients on mobile fleet reliability, performance optimisation, and strategic improvement programs. He later joined Anglo American as Global Lead for Mobile Equipment, where he spent nearly a decade driving strategy, performance, and continuous improvement across their global operations.
In 2024, Matt headed Clemac Consulting, supporting major mining companies with strategic asset assessments and targeted gap closure plans to achieve best-practice outcomes.
Now, as Director of Strategic Growth at Innovative Mining Services (IMS), Matt brings together technical precision, commercial insight, and a practical understanding of real-world operations. He plays a key role in driving national and international growth, while also shaping the future of Kake Australia, a values-driven joint venture focused on creating meaningful employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
