Defence Industry Adviser (Contractor to Defence) – Office of Defence Industry Support

Shaun is a Defence Industry Advisor within the Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS), commencing in May 2021 following a 24 year career in the maritime sector which included military service, senior management roles in both the state and federal public service and executive positions in private marine service businesses. During his time in the private sector Shaun oversaw rapid growth in a number of businesses up to $70 million turnover.

Shaun’s military service was as a navigation specialist serving in a range of platforms over a 10 year period. After leaving Defence, Shaun worked for both Maritime Safety Queensland and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) in industry facing safety portfolio roles and oversaw significant improvements in industry culture via a broad range of academic research led initiatives.

Shaun’s time in private business was as Manager Marine Operations at the Tasmanian Ports Corporation, General Manager Queensland for Svitzer Australasia and Chief Operating Officer Engage Marine Group.

Academic qualifications include a MBA (Logistics) from UTAS and a BA (Economics and Management) from UNSW. Shaun has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course and is also a qualified commercial vessel Master and Nuclear Submarine Pilot.
